FYIWe Quit Drinking
Several high profile (well, they are high profile to me) bloggers have started a blog called We Quit Drinking. It's an interesting concept in blogging. A group weblog providing support and outlet for some very good members of the blog community with a common problem.
I have never been a "drinker", total consumption last year (2003) 3 beers and a pina colada. I've never liked the taste of alcoholic beverages. I've often wondered if I was somewhat abnormal being an adult who does not like to drink but I don't drink coffee either so maybe I'm from another planet.
So I offer my support to this group and the individuals within. I've looked up to these writers since I've found this sport. I wish them luck. I'm sure that their blogging will continue to be of the highest order since they will not have to waste blogspace making public apologies for going over the edge.

Diagnosed with Diabetes some years ago, I curbed my then-minimal consumption of alcohol. Sometimes I miss the freedom to have Sake with Sushi, but this passes after a wistful millisecond.
So the Scotch sits on the shelf, there's always beer in the fridge (brought over by others who want some, and then they always seem to leave a bottle or two over for the next time), and we stopped buying Frangelica. Hell, that was just a side chaser to enjoy when having a cigar, anyway.
Then I stopped smoking cigars in the house, so now I don't even miss the Frangelica!
I never really understood what others found tasty in beer.
So I quit drinking with no problem. Same with sugar in foods. And all sorts of foods with all sorts of sugar.
Never missed either.
These are matters of life and death. Want to die? Go ahead, smoke, drink, do other unhealthy things, and certainly not in moderation.
Don't want to die? Then quit (or, if necessary, get help in quitting) doing unhealthy things.
Is there really much more to it than that?

Come on over, settle in, we'd love to hear your views, and how a non-drinking life works out for you (I have resolved to stick to the soc/psych side of things and not to offer any personal experiences, I suck at writing those :).

I spent a great deal of time on that new blog just now (thank you!) combing every inch of it. It's fantastic. My curiosity was piqued because of the NAMES of the contributers; also, I had seen the preview on Halley's blog, yesterday... but would you get a look at those names! The collection of high-powered writers alone will make for an interesting, most excellent salon of discourse.
You know, it seems like everyday, I find something new to be thankful for---for this new technology that brings us closer together. Our wide open spaces are being zipped down to bytes and bits of ones and zeros, shrink-wrapping our globe into an efficiency-sized apartment, where we can stand in the middle of the kitchen and reach all the cabinets and appliances without effort.
My hat's off to you techies that allow all this to happen for the rest of us. May you always be in great spirit to code, sir.
