Soap BoxRaising Issues
Jeff Jarvis has an interesting concept. Tired of the mudslinging that has become all to common in recent elections, Jeff has decided to raise some of the issues that he feels are important. His first issue is healthcare.
Jeff provides links to both Bush and Kerry’s health care plans. This is one of the major issues that needs to be discussed, and should be discussed, and is lost in the noise pollution that seems to be the only thing that major media cares to discuss.
The only insurance I've had for the last 11 years is "Insurance by Visa". Luckily, I average under $1000 dollars a year in medical bills. When Mrs. Noded had an appendectomy last July that, as they say, blew my average all to hell. I really haven't priced insurance lately but I recall Jeneane Sessum mentioning having a $600 a month tab for her heath insurance as a self-employee person with a small child. At $600 a month for 11 years would be almost $80,000 dollars in payments. And I come to find out that while I ended up with $25,000 in hospital bills for one day's hospitalization, Blue Cross/Blue Shield forks over between $4,000 and $6,000 and the hospitals are happy but not happy enough to give any individual a break.
I look forward to seeing Jeff's view on other issues and the comments of his readers. At last there is something interesting about this election.

I was going to rip on insurance, as it seems lately not to be covering too much anymore and does cost a fortune -- overhead is killing them, what with the insanely high charges from doctors and pharmacy companies -- but then I remembered that BC/BS just started covering most diabetic equipment/supplies -- YAHOO! I guess they figured (wisely) that paying out initially to have people be able to afford testing themselves on a regular basis -- in the long run -- is going to save them more costly procedures that result from ignoring this disease that has taken on epidemic proportions, like, you know, dialysis and amputations and stuff.
But yes: it's nice someone is bringing up the "ISSUES" once and for all. Thanks to JJ for that. And thanks to Noded for pointing it out to those of us who are less-informed. (I am an official member now of the Coalition of the Unwilling -- can't seem to muster up any more enthusiasm about this heinous mud-fest. Blech! I need window wipers and a good window wash spray to activate for my glasses every time I have to sit through a political ad on tv lately.)
