PhotographySkyline Too
I have another submission for Stu Savoy’s skyline meme. This is the skyline of the east end of Geneva Lake in Southern Wisconsin. It is only 35 miles north of NodedNorth which makes it closer to me than downtown Chicago. This is the view northeast from the municipal pier at Fontana. I don't remember the first time I saw the obseratory domes but it is one of those comfortable views that I carry with me always. If it wasn't there the world would be out of balance.
For the past 100 plus years the University of Chicago has operated the Yerkes Observatory on the northern shore of Geneva Lake. The large dome houses the largest refracting telescope in the world. It was state of the art in 1907. It is still in use today. You can tour the observatory on Saturdays. I get the feeling that Stu would love the area especially this weekend when the weather was perfect and the bikes were out in force.

I remember learning about that observatory in an astronomy class I took a couple years ago. It's really amazing to me that something built so long ago is still in use for something as picky as astronomy. Very cool!
