PhotographyMark Twain Was Here
I can't say for sure that Mark Twain (Samuel Clemmens) actually passed this spot but my guess is he did as it seems to be the easiest way down from Tahoe to Carson City, NV. Mark describes the time spent at Tahoe and over in Virginia City Nevada in his book Roughing It. The book is a must read and the area a must see.
Update: I just read this post again and realized that is sounds like I personally knew Mark Twain (hint: "Mark describes"). Just to set the records straight he died 39 years before I was born. The internet and conferences have allowed me the great pleasure of meeting several quite alive authors and writers. I guess I got carried away.

Visiting an old friend who lives on a lovely residential block in teh West Village (known to outsiders as "Greenwich Village"), I noticed historic markers on two houses just west of his, which let passers by know that Mark Twain had lived in one house, and that Emma Lazarus in the other.
I predicted to my pal that on 100 or so years, there will be another plaque, noting that he, too, lived in a house on that block.
Non-New Yorkers, and or those not in the know about NYC housing, will need to be told that this refers to small apartment houses, brownstones, rowhouses.
Why is it that Mark twain lived there, Emma Lazarus lived there...but the father of our country appears to have been a promiscuous fellow . . having **slept** everywhere, but only to have lived in Gettysburg and a few other places?!?!?!
Bloggers like me wanna know.
