Soap BoxHindsight Needed
Maybe soon I will have the hindsight to see that things may not be as bad as I am imagining them. I am a competitive man and I don’t like losing so I have to remember that national elections are not a competition and definitely not a sporting event. Neither side wins if those elected forget that they serve all their constituents.
It would be easy to mire myself in self-pity. I choose to take a different road for as Pogo said, “We are confronted by insurmountable opportunities”. There are always going to be bends in the road, we now need to make the most of them. I’m going to start by making a larger than normal donation to The Sierra Club and The EFF. They will need your help. In short time we will need to provide support for those whose rights may be seriously curtailed: women, blacks, working people, our children (Damn, I know I’ve been through all this before). Just because a party has a majority does not mean that it doesn’t have to listen to or be accountable to the people. If all else fails inundate.
With all our idealistic prose we did not attain the results we wanted. We all said “Oh Yeah” and patted each other on the backs. We kept our secret weapons to our selves. We can no longer preach just to the choir. "Out" your selves. Invite non-bloggers to your web site. Invite them to the conversation. Continue speaking your mind. Take your show on the road. Make sure that everyone knows that there are other views. And in time we will find our way out of this damn forest.

There are none so deaf as those who will not listen. Ad infinitum. Ad nauseum.
We've got a lot of work ahead of us.

Hindsight not needed. We already knew this.
From the EFF page:
"Voters discovered the problems when checking the review screen at the end of the voting process. They found, to their surprise, that the machines indicated that they voted for one candidate when they had voted for another. When voters tried to correct the problem, the machine often made the same error several times...
"...Incorrectly recorded votes make up roughly 20 percent of the e-voting problems ..."
What a surprise.
I wonder how many votes that 20 percent translates to? Does this mean that every time the voter screen said they voted incorrectly (and I think we know who for) that those votes went shooting through to the total, like when my hairdresser tried to charge my card three times yesterday, but kept ending up with error messages?
Surprise! My permanent cost $360.
I must look goooooooood.
