Soap BoxOn A Daily Basis
I get most of my news off the internet. One of the stranger things about this years election was me actually watching television news. Most of the evening I spent watching MSNBC which was doubly strange as they felt they needed to broadcast from outside, with a bunch of people with Kerry and Bush signs standing behind them. This lead to the talking heads ( I love that term) having to shout. I found this quite annoying. it was like I must be important I'm SHOUTING!. They sure had a lot of pundits. All of them yelling at each other. It reminded me of the early days of Saturday Night Live when Dan Akroyd would turn to Jane Curtin and say "Jane you ignorant ..."
Finally I switched to other channels to see what kind of strangeness I could find. I admit that I never got to see the news on CBS as they were in commercial when I skidded past. I skipped NBC and settled in on ABC where Peter Jennings was mostly alone at his desk talking quietly, admitting that they were not really sure if they could show footage of Bush in the White House without giving Kerry equal time.
It seems that the "Big Three" Networks of my youth were now just second banana's to the screamers on the cable news networks. At 9 I turned them off in favor of the Comedy Channel and Jon Stewart's Daily Show.
The most amazing thing to me is that some people actually watch television news shows on a daily basis; it explains a lot. Well, I've had my fill for at least 4 years unless we can talk them into another Presidential Election next year.

I now use "The Daily Show" as my only source of TV news. If you didn't watch Jon Stewart's appearance on "Crossfire", it's a must see.

I'm surrounded by news at work all day, so at home I hardly ever watch it. I did watch some of the election coverage though. I'm not sure how anyone can watch it every day! That little bit was plenty for me!
