FYILosing Our Collective Mind
Wikipedia is down this evening due to tripped circuit breakers.
At about 14:15 PST some circuit breakers were tripped in the colocation facility where our servers are housed. Although the facility has a well-stocked generator, this took out power to places inside the facility, including the switch that connects us to the network and all our servers.
Just when I was building an e-mail to my Dad trying to explain Wiki's.
Wikipedia has 170 gigbytes of data in their database.
There are probably many medium size companies that don't have that large a database for their whole company. At least they have backups. When was the last time you did a backup? More important when was the last time you checked to see if your backup really backed up?

Maxstor unit? Is that like one of those gobots? A robot that eats memory? Lol. So ... other than backing up on a disk to save, how else does one back up or check on the backing up? And when you do back up, is there beep beep beep sound? :)

Jim, I just bought a little 250GB Maxstor unit. It tickles me that I could back-up Wikipedia and still have 80GB left over!
