To change the name of your Mac running OS X click on the Systems Preferences on the Dock (You will need to be an adminstrator to make this change). Look under Internet & Network and click on the Sharing icon.

Click on the edit button at the top of the window that is displayed after you click the Sharing icon. If the edit button is not active you will have click on the lock at the bottom of the window to unlock. Enter the new name for your computer in the edit box.
