Tech OverloadStarting Out Well

March 7, 2006

The first morning of ETech 2006 is humming along. Ray Ozzie CTO at Microsoft presented a first round idea of moving data between Web Applications by wrapping the data in an xml package and using the standard windows clipboard. The idea is only about a month old but I think it has some potential but really relies on coming up with a format/mircroformat that is acceptable across a large landscape of companies and web services. Want to bet some will come up with a competing standard just because they can?

Second on the stage was Jeff Han who demonstrated a multi-touch interface that just could be a preview of the future. The audience was impressed. This demo left might mind spinning with the possible uses. I've been thinking about this since his demo and I still haven't come close to running out of ideas. In a few years your desktop will be virtual.

It's amazing how much power a bunch of geeks, a rather larger bunch mind you, requires to keep connected. It is also amazing to make an assumption that every geek likes coffee as that is all that is available at coffee break today.
