Soap BoxPulling the Plug, Pulling the Chain
To those thinking about quitting blogging, those who want out. Pull the plug, flush it, call it a day, no one is holding a WMD to your head forcing you to blog, just put down the blog and walk away. If you're not having fun, if your not feeling good about it stop. Doctor, Doctor it hurts when I blog... If the vacuum you leave by stopping sucks the whole blogosphere into nothingness well then it wasn't much of anything to start with.

Or you can threaten to quit blogging just so those who care for you (and need your money, or need your approval regarding the RSS spec) will post weblog entries that say "Omigod! Please don't quit! My world will come to an end if you quit! The people need you! Think of humanity!" So then you can say "I've realized that I can't quit, because so many people need me, and I'd be letting them down if I quit."
I can think of someone who pulls this stunt about every year or two. He may be a genius, I'm not questioning the value of what he's created, but, damn, he certainly craves a great deal of public adoration.

Thank you, jr, well said. I agree. There's something else I have noted in the ~ year I've been doin' it.There seems to be almost an obsession with many bloggers about quitting - a sort of death wish. They look for any random grouping of words that might be pulled together and rearranged to sound like "quit".
The most comments I've ever had was a post awhile back where I mused about up and down traffic and lack of comments. No where did I say anything about quitting. Yet at least half the comments were the pleading kind, urging me to reconsider and not quit. Some others said their final goodbyes as if I had announced retirement. Go figger...

Or you could hang out and do a never ending swan song - "Oh I think I'll leave... oh I don't have anything important/interesting/funny to say anymore" :) That's my favorite.
