RantsIt's The Meaning People

May 1, 2006
Attention! Watch the morning flag same flag (we) watched proudly last night!

We watched stripes and star flag endure dangerous fight

Recognize that? It's the Star Spangle Banner in ASL (American Sign Language) and it's about to be outlawed. Since it is a translation of the Star Spangle Banner it will not be allowed under legislation put forward by Senator Lamar Alexander (R - TN); it would be unlawful to sing the National Anthem in anything other than English.

Of course Senator Alexander was thinking more along the lines of stopping the new Spanish version. Using the old "our forefathers (George, John, Thomas, and Ben, etc" wanted us to sing the Anthem in English which is a rather interesting as the Star Spangle Banner post-dated some of the founding fathers and wasn't even our National Anthem until 1931.

One of the more curious things about this is if you look at the bottom of Senator Lamar Alexander's goverment page you will see a link to Informacion En Espanol. It appear that the Senator is willing to talk Spanish if it will win him a vote.

It's the meaning of song not the language, people, it's the meaning!

The Senator is an obsolete, crusty old relic of days long gone. He served honorably as the Gubernator of our fair state, but did not have the good sense and grace to stay retired. He's clueless, but for the most part harmless, unlike his fellow Senator Frist who is both clueless and dangerous. How we ended up with 2 losers up there at the same time is beyond my comprenension.
