I was under the impressition that we elected our officials and they hired their staff to do something about a crisis, not just to point it out.

America's war in Iraq is the real cause of gas prices going up. So they only have George Bush to blame.
Having said that, Americans in general pay a lot less than other nations for gas. For example, most European drivers pay three times the amount for gas.
