Unclear On ConceptLearn Something New Every Day
Today I learned that optical mice do not work on glass tables. Picture to follow.Pictures will not follow as it is hard to take a picture of a glass tabletop. Anyway if you attempt to use an optical mouse on a clear or mostly clear table top you will fail as the little laser beam has nothing to bounce around on.

You just need to smudge up the glass surface with some fingerprints. Works great.
Yes, speaking from personal experience. :-)

They are great, but have some limitations. Just like balls...
They don't work well on a surface with highly delineated contrasts, like a black and white Gateway moo box or a cutesy dalmation mouse pad. The sudden change from black to white and back seems to confuse them. They are not blind mice...

I found that the same thing happened when I tried to use an optical mouse on an "all black" surface. I can't recall if the black surface I was trying it on was flat or glossy, though.
