Tech OverloadTime Capsule
Opened up a time capsule of sorts yesterday. I must have bought the Sharp laptop a good 10 or 12 years ago. I can't believe I ran my development environment off of it for more than a couple of years. The thing is small but not light. It has a 13 inch screen and would be just a bit larger than the size off today's net books, just twice as heavy. It has 16 meg of memory and a 1ghz processor. It has serial and parallel ports but no USB. No optical disc just a small floppy drive but I did have a network card in PCMCIA slot.
I plugged it in and it booted right up. Running Windows 95. There is some vintage software on it; Visual Basic 5.0 and Internet Explorer 3.0. I couldn't get the network card working so I couldn't see how bad IE 3 would mangle today's web sites. I also have a AST 486 machine that I bought 15 years ago when I started my company but I remember doing a fresh install of Windows 95 on it just before I shut it off for good. Thinking that tomorrow I might just take them both up to the recycle center.
