Opened up Google this morning and found Popeye.

EC Segar's Popeye

The Google homepage is celebrating the 115th birthday of Popeye creator EC Segar. Reading up on Segar I was suprised that the creator of such an endearing charater as Popeye died at the young age of 43. I was also suprised to discover that the Oyl family predates Popeye in the comic strip [link].

Interesting that Segar's hometown of Chester, IL has been adding statues of Segars charaters to the town at a rate of one or more a year.

Popeye has always been a favorite of mine. Any cartoon charater that is able to have a conversations with himself is number one in my book.
