Apple designs great products I'm just not sure about allowing them to name them. The iPad name is at best unfortunate in my book but then I didn't like the name Mac Book Pro much either. Throwing naming aside, I think the iPad is just the right tool for something that I need. The iPad is a social media tool.

Granted, I'm only looking at it from afar, but I'm really ready for the iPad to replace my iPod Touch. I keep my Touch beside the bed. I use my Touch for a lot of things having nothing to do with storing music. I use it for checking the weather forecast first thing in the morning and checking in on Twitter and Flickr in the evening after the laptop computer is shut down.. The would use it to check my RSS feeds if the screen were bigger. I would use it for posting blog entries if the screen were bigger.

And now there is the iPad with the screen big enough to surf the web, check in on Twitter, carry on IM conversations, to view photographs on Flickr, all the social media stuff I do on line. And the best feature (something carried over from the Touch... ) it is almost instant on. The number of times I have had to restart the computer because I forgot to check something will not be something I miss when I purchase an iPad.

There are some things I wish it did have, like a camera but I figure all that will come. I probably will not get one with 3G as I have the MiFi card which can handle more than one device. I will probably get a 32 gig wifi model just for the start and just because Apple has a tendency to produce bigger models with more features later for the same price and I want to be ready for the next iPad too.
