Discovered the Marine Traffic site today. It keeps track of most of the major ships at sea. Position updates are pretty constant. This image is the traffic going thru the Straits of Gibraltar about midnight UTC on 2011/01/04. The green icons are cargo ships, the red, tankers. The blue ships are passenger.
