All In One Place

Spent the afternoon counting boxes that arrived from Noded North. Having two homes is going to take some time to undo. We still have a lot more stuff then we need and we've sold or given away a whole bunch. One more day of unloaded at Nodette ones house tomorrow. By the way we used Adco Van and Storage out of Barrington IL. They did a nice job for us. Including getting the house packed up on a 98 degree day.

Noded North Is Empty

The came and packed up Noded North yesterday. The place looked strange empty. It took 25 years to fill the place and forever to clean it out. Championship movers worked in 98 degree weather all day. I kept them in Powerade with more than one trip to the store. I am looking forward to not lifting heavy boxes and have acquired an adversion to packing tape. Got three hours south of Chicago area last night. Mrs Noded found a fly swatter in the dresser at the hotel room. She commented "You take me to the nicest places".

Last Round

It's hard to think that I play my last round of golf at Bonnie Dundee Golf Club. I've been the course pretty much since I took up golf about 7 years ago. The first time I played the course I was paired up with a guy who had been playing the course since he was 16. He was 66 when we played and he still played pretty well. The course was built in 1928.

I think of Bonnie Dundee as my home course for Noded North. It was easy to get to and while it has a lot of challenging par 4's you don't get in much trouble there unless you mess up 9 and 17 which are right along side the highway. I may have played my best round at today shooting an 82. Usually if you play later on a Sunday afternoon and you get into the par 5 13th you start to hear a mexican band that always seems to be playing not far from the course. I think there must be a mexican bar near by. Anyway the music is not loud enough to be distracting and is sort of a signature of the course to me. For a park district course it is in really good condition and has improved over the last 7 years.

So today was probably the last time I will play there and I will miss the course and the people that have worked their that have made me feel welcome. And the course itself finally gave me a bit of a goodbye with a good round.

Moving Sale Over

The moving sale is over. We got rid of most of the big stuff. Took the philosophy that we amortized all the original cost out of stuff long ago and any money we made was just extra cash. Now crashing into bed after a shower. I am so glad that we were able to do this in the middle of the summer and not the middle of the winter.

Moving Sale

Had the first day of our moving sale which turned into a half day moving sale as some really nasty storms came through just about the time we were supposed to start. Finally let up just after noon and we had plenty of help from Mom and Dad and neighbors. Got the stuff out on the driveway and sold some stuff. Was able to sell the 300lb TV and corner cabinet and didn't even have to carry it.

Future archeologists will be amazed at the size and weight of our technology. I am amazed at the size and weight of our technology.

Still Moving

Still moving, barely. I have to take tomorrow off to do some actual work. Best line of the week so far was from Mrs. Noded: "Hiring movers was a good idea" as we struggled to get a bed down the stairs.

I Owe The World A Tree

Old Books

I'm cleaning out my library of technical books before the move (which is coming up in a week). This pile is a whole bunch of books on techical subjects that are all so out of date the best thing to do is to recycle them. Anyone need a book on developing applications with Access 1.1? This stack may be the best argument yet for e-readers like the Kindle and others soon to come. Once you by a book you may read it once or twice. In some cases you may not even get through the book before becoming bored with it. It seems to be such a waste to have this dinosaurs hanging around taking up space.

I'm looking a few 250gig usb drives sitting on my desk that cost about the same as any two of the larger books in my pile. My guess it at most of that pile would fit on one of those drives. And I wouldn't be paying about $50 per hundred pounds to ship the to Florida. It seems to me we really need to get more digital with our reading. It makes a lot of sense in that the tree not cut down is there to provide us with air to breath.

Guess I should go plant a tree now.
